چکیده

IN certain experiments on iron metabolism, involving the iron-containing protein of egg-yolk, lecitho-vitellin, we planned to make a large number of iron estimations. To conserve our small supply of protein, the preparation of which had involved considerable time and labour, we desired to cut down the size of the sample analysed to the smallest amount on which an accurate iron determination could be made. The author and colleagues [1930] had already found that the iron content of egg-yolk protein could be accurately determined by the method of Kennedy [1927]. The samples then analysed contained about 0 05 mg. iron, an amount somewhat greater than that which we now wished to estimate. The results of a critical study of Kennedy's procedure as the basis of a micro-colorimetric method are recorded in the first part of this paper. The second part is concerned with the determination of small amounts of iron in biological materials by potentiometric titration with titanous sulphate.

Cerimetric Determination of Propranolol in Bulk Drug Form and in Tablets

Two simple, accurate and precise methods are described for the determination of propranolol hydrochloride with cerium(IV) sulphate. The titrimetric method is based on the oxidation of the drug by a known excess amount of cerium(IV) sulphate and back titration of the unconsumed oxidant with ammonium ferrous sulphate. In the spectrophotometric method, the unreacted cerium(IV) sulphate is treated ...

Determination of Magnesium (II) by a Coated Graphite Electrode Based on Risperidone as an Ionophore

In this research, a coated graphite electrode was constructed for determination of Mg2+ in pharmaceutical supplements. The designed sensor demonstrates an ideal Nernstian slope (30.1 mV. Decade-1) over a wide concentration range (1×10-6- 1×10-1 Mol L-1). The selectivity of the sensor was evaluated over 16 different cations by matched potential method and no serious interference was observed fro...

New Coated Graphite Potentiometric Sensor for Selective Determination of Copper (II) Ions

A highly selective copper (II) coated graphite sensor was prepared by 1,13-bis(8-quinolyl)- 1,4,7,10,13-pentaoxatridecane (kryptofix 5) as a supramolecule ionophore into plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membrane. The best response characteristic was observed using the membrane composition of PVC = 30.0 mg, dioctyl sebacate (DOS) = 63.5 mg, palmitic acid (PA) = 3.0 mg and kryptofix 5 = 3.5 m...

Organopalladium(II) Complexes as Ionophores for Thiocyanate Ion-Selective Electrodes

A thiocyanate poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane electrode based on [1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane]dihalopalladium(II), [(dppe)PdX2, X = Cl (L), X = I (L)] as active sensor has been developed. The diiodopalladium complex, [(dppe)PdI2](L) displays an anti-Hofmeister selectivity sequence: SCN‒ > I‒ > ClO4‒ > Sal‒ > Br‒ > NO2‒ > HPO4‒ > AcO‒ > NO3‒ > H2PO4‒ > CO32‒. The electrode exhibits a Ne...

The iron method of haemoglobin estimation.

Although the estimation of haemoglobin in blood by its iron content is admittedly the most accurate of the methods available in haemoglobinometry a simple procedure for carrying this out is not described in current textbooks. The best-known technique for determining iron, described by King and Wootton (1956), involves the ash-ing of a known quantity of blood in a muffle furnace, the conversion ...
